No Greater Love
John 15:13
Here, at the end of his earthly ministry, as he fixes his gaze towards Golgotha, Jesus tells his disciples how much he loves them and how much he loves the world. The sacrifice of the Savior for the world that ridiculed and hated him is a point that must be articulated over and again. Not only did he love those who wanted him dead, but he also was willing to die for them- to give them what they could never achieve or receive on their own. His atoning sacrifice took our punishment, our culmination of hate and apathy, and made a way for us to receive grace and forgiveness… a way to be at one with the Father (this is what the word ‘atonement’ means– at one ment).
This week, let us contemplate this at-one-ment with the Father which is made possible only through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why? Because he loves us.
